I recently read a fascinating book called Comrade J: The Untold Secrets of Russia’s Master Spy After the End of the Cold War by Pete Early. It’s the amazing story of Sergei Tretyakov who worked in the highest echelons of the former KGB.
One story in particular stuck with me, because I remember it from childhood. The Americans were planning to install patriot missiles in Europe (I was living in West Germany at the time). Of course, the Russians wanted to prevent this. So they “created” some science to underscore the horrors of nuclear war. Their creation was the infamous “Nuclear Winter.” The idea, Tretyakov says, was completely make-believe.
The German Green Party jumped on the KGB propaganda. Soon, all of Western Europe was in an uproar. The Amercian Left picked up the chorus – even making a made-for-T.V. movie (remember ABC’s 1983 film The Day After?). Everyone believed they were following science, but they were really buying propaganda pandered by those with an agenda.
I was reminded of this as I read about Elena Kagan’s allegedly doctored American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists report. It supposedly gave scientific reasons why the Supreme Court should overturn legislation of partial birth abortion. The report was presented to the body she hopes to soon join. See http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=184317
I’m also reminded how easy it is to lead us lemmings over the cliff. Don’t believe me? Watch this five minute video, How to Brainwash a Nation, from another KGB agent, Yuri Bezmenov. It is chilling. http://saynsumthn.wordpress.com/2010/03/05/socialism-explained-by-former-kgb-agent-vintage-interview-warns-america/
Think! Pray! (not necessarily in that order)
